Also on another attached tag is "

" which is now
Iowa State University
. This was therefore at one time the former property of Iowa State University.
This is a very old scientific or experimental study apparatus. The State College of Iowa changed the name to Iowa State University in 1959.
Someone has writen in blue marker "
gerbil cage
" but it probably was used for any small rodent or animal such as a Gerbil, Hamster, or rat.
Overall size is 16-1/4" wide, 19" high, and 14" long.
The exercise wheel has a 14" diameter and is 4-1/4" wide.
The wheel is simply mechanically wired to a counter that will count the wheel revolutions in either direction when the animal turns the wheel.
There is a small animal cage that is removable from the device. It attaches by the means of 2 small wire hanging hooks.
The cage is 10" long, 5" high, and 6" deep.
The cage has a front hinged door, and a sliding rear door that opens via a small wire rod through the side of the cage.
There is a carry handle on top of the whole apparatus.
It is made of galvanized metal that was painted silver at one time. There is no plastic of course.
I cannot find any cracks or broken parts.
Everything works as it should and the counter works well.
