Description
New 3/8" x 50' winch cable. IPS Fiber core wire rope. SELF LOCKING swivel hook on one end (21,400 lb. breaking strength). This cable features a high quality self locking swivel hook. Ideal for most tow trucks (roll backs and wreckers) that were shipped from the factory with 3/8" cable. The SELF LOCKING swivel hook is requested and worth the extra cost to towers who experience problems breaking the latch used on standard swivel hooks (see our other eBay listings for cables with standard swivel hooks and non-swivel hooks and steel core cable). The manufacturer's recommendation for most tow trucks using 8,000 lb. winches is 3/8" fiber core cable. A few examples would be the Holmes 440, 480. 1200, 1201, Century 412, Jerr Dan HPL35, Vulcan 882, Challenger 4800, etc.

. Our products are designed to meet the demands of professional operators. We sell all lengths, sizes and strengths of wire rope for every brand and model of tow truck and/or winch. Contact us with any questions regarding wire rope prior to bidding.
Always consult the manufacturer's recommendations when replacing winch cable. Most tow trucks are shipped from the factory with IPS (Improved Plow Steel) Fiber Core cable. Fiber Core is more flexible and is generally considered to last longer because the fiber core holds lubricant that is squeezed out when the cable is placed under load.
Some tow trucks are shipped from the factory with Steel core cable. Steel core cable can be either IPS IWRC (Improved Plow Steel Independent Wire Rope Center), EIPS IWRC (Extra Improved Plow Steel IWRC), or EEIPS IWRC (Extra Extra Improved Plow Steel IWRC). Steel core cable is more crush resistant than fiber core but not as flexible. EEIPS is the strongest followed by EIPS and then IPS. The Holmes 1701 is an example of a tow truck where the manufacturer specifies a 5/8" EEIPS cable.
We have the manufacturer's requirements for many tow trucks. Contact us if you need assistance in determining which cable is right for you.
