These gold commemorative proof coins were the first gold coins struck by the US Mint since 1933, the first coins to bear the "W" mintmark of the West Point Mint with certificates of authenticity and a total of 381,085 proof coins were struck. Gold Eagles are coins guaranteed to weight and gold content by the US Government.
